MindSet

That which directs one's thinking. A 'fixing - fixation' of one's state of mind.

Sometimes words present puzzles to me, as if the surface layer is just a veneer of that which lies within the word and closer to the truth of that word's meaning. We use the word mindset with great frequency, often offering the word within connotations of negativity such as 'allusions to brainwashing', you might refer to someone as having a 'typical _________ mindset' - you can fill that blank with innumerable labels such as Christian, Muslim, Republican, Democrat, elderly, youthful, black, white, male, female, gay, straight etc.... This type of comment is almost always used in a manner of derogatory evaluation or as a means of identifying and thereby dismissing another person's thoughts as 'less than' or 'inferior to' the person so labeling them. There is a suggestion that the individual is trapped within an 'unfree' thought construction, some type of corruption of their ability to reason 'outside' of the box. The 'set' is considered to be a point of fixation, a trap, a box, a prison existing 'within' the mind of the individual.

This places the word 'set' in some prominence. Within the combined word -mindset- 'set' becomes the 'action' to or toward the mind. When we consider the importance we place on the mental abilities, operation of the mind, intellectual quality of the mind, mental power of the mind, emotional and spiritual capability and all other aspects that we attribute to the function or state of the mind then we might observe that anything which 'sets' or 'fixes' the functions of the mind can be considered to be of significant importance to the individual.

Within the practices of BDSM, I have often noted the 'fixation' of submissives into trancelike conditions or states of mind wherein the normal pattern of functioning of the mind is clearly altered. Within this context, I continue to explore what creates and sustains the phenomenon that each of us observes in ourselves and others. (That which creates and sustains narrow thought.) A fixated state can be summoned, influenced, altered, and imposed upon the thought processes of other beings. The most common and perhaps influential way to 'create' an externally placed fixation within the mind of other humans is to begin an imprinting process on the mind from birth. In this way, an elaborate and complex construction of 'oriented' beliefs can be taught and enforced. When a child is young, their mind is 'open' to information and direction. This openness is what allows the child to gather information and knowledge necessary for survival within the confines of their immediate environment. Corruption of this process is that which deliberately limits the range of information or thought, or when that child is punished for thinking or expressing opinions outside of the acceptable 'box'. Within an adult, this process can be reinitiated by first 'breaking through' or destabilizing the mind through numerous methods of mental assault, then through 'laying in' or 'imprinting over' the extant theology, ideology, beliefs, morality, and ethics of the individual. You can note famous examples of this used on prisoners of war, captives, and people who have become 'captivated' by the rhetoric or dogma of an individual or organization when that individual is in a mentally vulnerable state of mind or a destabilized mental condition, such as at times of high stress, mourning, or during or immediately after traumatic events. This kind of external 'teaching' explains part of the conditional responses, but not all.

Being unsatisfied that 'external programming' offered a complete explanation for the behaviors which seem prevalent, I decided to explore the word mindSet further.

Set - SET - Seth - Setja - Satjan - settan

One of the definitions of the word 'Set' offers intriguing hints from our collective ancient past. 'The patristic system of dogma.'

Patristic - Father

Of or relating to the philosophy and early writings of a cult, religion, or organization that advocates the supremacy of the father, male head of clan or family, of domestic and religious functions, ordering the legal dependency of the wife and females, and the reckoning of descent and inheritance of the male line.

Dogma

Something held as an established opinion, a doctrine, or body of doctrines of theology and religion formally stated and authoritatively proclaimed by a church.

The heavy religious overtones of the words' definitions suggested to me that further investigation might offer additional clues.

Set is the name of a male god aspect of the Kemet 'Netjer' who appears to have been prominent in Kemet culture approximately 6,000 years ago in and around the northern coastal regions of Africa, which we now call Egypt. Netjer loosely refers to the 'Self-Created One' of Ancient Egypt. This 'god' can manifest itself in many different forms while retaining the concept that all forms or 'gods' are part of or aspects of Netjer. This type of belief system is called a Monolatry. It is reasonable to consider each 'god' of Netjer to represent a group of distinct characteristics and, by extension, concur that these 'aspects' or characteristic traits can be identified as representative of 'following that god or aspect'. When looking more closely at what is identifiable as 'Set,' it becomes instructive to look at what actions are attributed to Set. Set was the half-brother of Isis (Aset) and Osiris (Wesir), and husband to Nephthys. At some point, Set is said to have committed fratricide against Osiris (brother killing brother). Some of the legends include Set hacking up the body of Osiris and scattering his remains to the far corners of the world. This legend continues with Isis (who is also the wife of Osiris) going into the world to gather the pieces of Osiris. She locates everything but Osiris' phallus. (This is also a source of the ritual, which restrains worshippers from eating fish on the one day of the week that Isis scours the oceans and rivers for Osiris' missing phallus. You can see this practice being followed today. This is also an association with 'fish' as representing the penis of Osiris or, in some extensions, representing the progeny of Osiris (or more properly, Isis) as emergent from that reproductive source.) Using 'magic'*, Isis becomes pregnant and brings forth her son Horus. There are further allusions that she brought forth twins, with the second child being none other than a form of Bast* (Pasch). Also included in this legend is the suggestion that Nephthys (the wife of Set) may have been the initial reason for the killing, since it is suggested that she also bore a child or children by Osiris before the fratricide. Set is considered to have been unable to father children, or he was 'barren'. That is 'without seed', 'without fruit'. He is represented in some Kemet literature as being the 'dead sands' of the desert attempting to overtake the 'fertile lands - or black earth' (fertility is almost always represented by the female god aspects) of the bottom lands of the Nile. In this extrapolation, you can view 'Set' as being of that which is without life or is not 'alive' or able to 'create' life. Set can be further viewed as that aspect which rapes or pillages or removes life from the 'lands and the seas of the peoples'. Since Set is 'unable to create or produce life', he must 'take' fertility or exercise control of all that is fertile, including the destruction of or removal of fertility (such as by decree, law, or religious doctrines). Set may represent the inability to 'self-create' or 're-create', reflecting a necessary reliance on that which is external to Set to create FOR Set. There is a further legend which places Set in further direct action against 'Isis' with an allusion which places Set within the 'mind' of 'men' and Isis within the body, blood, or DNA of 'women'. Set is further associated or directly related to the sun, sunlight, illumination, luminance, and, through further extrapolation en(light)enment, or to bring light or knowledge within (of or relating to the mind). And, with Isis to be associated with or related to intuition and, through some lines of extrapolation, to creative thinking, or nonlinear thought. Isis is also related to the 'moon' or life of the planet, while Set is aligned with the Sun, which brings light but is not 'of' the planet but external or separate from, though necessary for life to exist.

Examples of Set/mindSet within current society are practices which favor production of dead products or materials at the expense of 'environment - life/health of peoples, animals, lands and seas', practices which promote or require the subjugation of women within a patriarchal framework, deviation from which demands or requires punishment or removal from favor (casting out. in religious terms). Predisposition toward destruction or a removal of 'feeling' or 'emotion' from actions of man against man or (brother against brother). Hatred, distrust of, or desire to cause harm to women. Predisposition toward 'conserving' or restricting the rights or liberties of women is often expressed as 'conservative' or 'traditional' behavior. Identification or desire to attack, damage, or injure women by 'labeling' improper women as 'cunts', and their offspring as 'bastards' (this being any woman whose breeding practices restrict a man from identifying her progeny as 'of his loins', bastard literally referenced as being without 'male' lineage)

For those of you who have muddled through this very lengthy piece, I will add a few brief notes here. Bastard, cunt, and passion are all direct references to 'Bast' (Pasch) and those who prefer to follow practices of life bearing diversity (primarily sexually) and abundance. Set is Sat with the inescapable connections to Sat-an (in its 'root' language forms) and as the bringer of enlightenment or the bearer of 'light', Lucifer.

The *magic of Isis is called the zona pellucida, which is a structure within the female body that contains a sac that bears a latent male protein. This lies within the inherited genetic structure of the female. Upon activating this protein, her fertile egg was penetrated, wherein the protein then tricked her egg into believing the protein was a sperm. Isis became pregnant. (self-creation or the ultimate manifestation of Netjer) An 'immaculate' birth is a birth by which this technique is used by the female. She bore twins, Pasche and Horus. Her action may have revealed to Set that the existence of male and female as separate entities was not necessary. Genetics provides a solution with a possible evolution toward androgyny or the 'removal of Set' as a separate being, as evolutionarily redundant.

It is also possible to consider that the direct 'male' role of 'defender of creator (she who brings forth life from within) (Queen)' may no longer be necessary, as the 'created' environment is now no longer threatened by traditional enemies of the female and offspring (such as animals, food, and shelter). It is possible that once the 'species' has 'solved' the problem, it will alter to remove what is now the greatest threat to women and children, which is 'man upon man'. This alteration or genetic movement toward a more androgynous state may already be underway.

It is instructive to note that only the 'female line' can be traced with accuracy in historical genealogical terms since the actual 'donor' of sperm is known and controlled by the female. This has only changed within the past 10 years with the advent of DNA testing to prove the paternal identity of offspring.

Dogma

Any belief held definitively and without the possibility of reform. It may be in the form of an official system of principles or doctrines of a school of thought, not limited to religion or politics, i.e., the dogma of SSC.
