The Rack

This is a table-like device that has a means of stretching a person (yep), just like in the movies. Some use winches, others use wheels. The table is generally wooden and unadorned or padded with leather. For the really creative uhhh scener, this table should include appropriate removable cut-outs.

The St. Andrews Cross

This is a cross made or designed in X formation. It is generally angled against the wall, may have foot rests, and often will have adjustable attachment positions. Also, some of the funner ones have nails, hooks, or screws along the outer edges so that a sub can be 'laced' to the cross.

The Stocks

Stocks are a device that has cutouts for the neck and wrists. There are also some inclined boards that have built-in stocks for the cock. Stocks can be made of wood or metal and should be loose enough not to impair blood flow in any way. For longer scening, the stocks should be comfortably positioned and lined with sheepskin. In addition, a 'cage' can be made to have built-in stocks. This can be fun if the sub is 'servicing' the Dom.

The Whipping Post

Designs on Whipping Posts vary. It may be a literal post with fetters, or it may be a variant of a stool which allows the sub to be positioned for the most ease when whipping. Some Dominants choose to use the whipping post SOLELY for punishment, never for play.

The Flogging Horse

The Flogging Horse is a fairly wide, rounded, padded bench often standing at full sub standing waist height. The sub is bent over the horse and may be fettered to an adjoining wall or all the way forward to the floor in front of the horse. Feet are usually fettered as well. A well-designed horse may allow for open spread usage when the sub is mounted sideways upon it.

The Sling

Slings come in many designs and shapes, but generally are very heavy leather slings with open access to the genitilia, loops for the feet and hands. This is a form of suspension play and does fatigue the sub after a fairly short session.

Suspension Play

Suspension play can include many variations. There are a large number of support cuffs, boots, slings, harnesses, hardware, rope techniques, winches, bungees, and assorted other things which fall into this range. Suspension should be LEARNED. If you are interested in doing this sport, ask in your local area for someone who is already an expert to teach you. THIS IS DANGEROUS!

Table Play

The padded play table is perhaps the most common and oft-used dungeon scening toy. It is usually large with multiple tie-down points, short enough for the Dominant to reach over easily, and high enough to be comfortable. Tables can be used as racks with the addition of tiny winches. If so, it can be fun to use a winch that makes tiny clicking sounds as it is tightened.

Caging

The most common cage is the dog kennel. Though these are rickety in my opinion. There are many other types of cages, including leather ones, squeezers, circular, room-size, and super tights. Style and design are personal preferences and functionality of usage.

TOYS:

Wax

Wax play is done with low-temperature or 'cheap' white candles. The best type to use is utility candles. Heat on impact can be regulated by distance from the skin. Read a good manual on technique, watch a live demo prior to playing. Also, many Dominants enjoy 'waxing' their subs; this is another type of wax used to remove hair.

Ice

Ice play is generally cubes or 'formed' cubes for insertion. It is also commonly used on the nipples, and small sacks can be easily made using sandwich bags, rubber bands, and clothespins.

Clamps : Nipples, Tongue, Cock, Balls, Labia, Clit, Clotheslines, Zippers, between fingers in webbing, etc.

There are perhaps 10-12 common varieties of scene created clamps sold by the professional stores. There are also a wide variety of clamps, such as clothespins, that can be found anywhere. Prior to scening a clamp, it should be tested, and serrated edges or teeth should be removed so as not to tear the skin.

Shaving : (total pubic shaving)

Shaving can be ritually done in the scene by the Dominant using some old-fashioned straight-edged razors, or more often by the submissive themselves prior to scening. Shaving is important if the D/s enjoys anything that the presence of hair inhibits (such as wax play. See some of the online sites for shaving tips.

Leather cuffs

The most common and popular cuff, the lined leather cuff, provides safety, comfort, and scene longevity. There are many styles and sizes, as well as configurations for different areas of the body. Some people buy the velcro cuffs, but these tear at lingerie fabrics, damaging stockings, etc., and are less secure and comfortable.

Leather training collar

This collar is generally larger, thicker, and more substantial than a wearing collar. It may have 2 or 3 d rings for attaching things. This is a must purchase for safe scening.

Stretchers

Stretchers may refer to at least two different things. The most common are stretcher bars, which spread the ankles, knees, or arms to a position; these often allow for simple suspension play. They are also sheaths that stretch the area between a man's genital base and their scrotum. [eg]

Thigh cuffs

Thigh cuffs can be purchased in leather, velcro, or nylon. The simplest and cheapest toy for the kit is the adjustable nylon dog leash. The simple connector at the adjustable wrist area allows for large loops to be easily created, while the other end remains with a latch. These are generally 6-10 bucks in the pet store. Thigh cuffs are also made using rope bondage - Japanese style often have these!

Rope Bondage

There are many styles of rope bondage, some very intricate. I recommend getting some good knot books and attending workshops or demos prior to play. For simple (almost safe) wrist and ankle bondage, wrap the joint in a terry cloth washcloth before wrapping the ropes over the top - they should NOT be tight. Anything that constricts blood flow is BAD!! Wrap at least 4 times.

Mummification

Mummification is done with wraps, latex, or bandages such as Ace. It is also done with rubberized suits or bags.

Latex

A rubberized material popular in scenes. Outfits can be made from this material, as well as many toys.

Posture cuffs

Posture toys range from extreme collars, which force the neck high, to arm cuffs, which force the chest and shoulders out and back. These are sometimes scened with ponies, hogties, forced oral, etc.

Harnessing

There is a large variety of harnesses available for many different positions and levels of comfort. Most are made of quality leather.

Pony gear

This gear includes hoods, bits, bridles, straps, harnesses, saddles, butt plug tails, tufted manes, etc. It can also include hoof shoes.

Chastity gear

This gear is designed to prevent manual stimulation (masturbation) and can be made of leather and even metal. Some are designed to be toilet-friendly, and all are designed to lock.

Gags

A wide variety of gags are available, from balls to insertables. Select a gag carefully, considering the length of time it is to be worn and the level of comfort you wish to use.

Pumps

Used here to identify cock pumps. Vacuum pressure tubes, which engorge the penis, making it more sensitive and larger.

Nipple kits

Also known as snake bite kits, these inexpensive and simple suction devices can be placed over the nipple to force blood to the surface...use with discretion!

Anal play

This generally means any play where the anus may be penetrated, be it through ice, dildo, penis, finger, fist, vibrator, or lined retainer pumps are also used here, as well as plugs, etc.

Golden showers: urine play

This activity places the submissive within the field or range of pee. This may be on their body and sometimes inside their mouth, where they may be expected to swallow. Note: HEALTH ISSUES HERE! Urine play can also be the sub urinating (gen fem), while cuming.

Enemas: brown showers - potential future scat

Enemas are often used prior to and as part of anal play to clean out the feces. Some people enjoy being used as a receiver or being forced to intake feces and swallow. Note: HEALTH ISSUES HERE!

Air reduction play; *AN: aka Breath play 

Asphyxia is any play which restricts or controls the sub's ability to breathe freely and may include choking, smothering, and hoods with tubes, sacks, plastics, etc. THIS IS DANGEROUS. HEALTH ISSUES HERE!

Electrical play: violet wand or tens unit

There are various types of electrical (safe) play toys. Including the Violet Wand (so named for its neon color), which discharges static and, when properly trained, is safe during usage. The second popular toy is the Tens unit, which sends charges into the skin and tissues as well. Both require training to use safely!

Dildo play: double dildo play

There are innumerable varieties of dildos, from pump-ups to those mounted into harnesses and those electrified.

Puppy training

This is where the sub is trained in the same manner as a puppy. They are kept in a kennel, eat from a food bowl on the floor (often dog food), and drink from a water bowl. They are not allowed off their knees and are sometimes strapped to maintain their ankles to their thighs. They are led about on a collar and leash and can often be found under tables, etc.

Humiliation training

Humiliation takes many forms; it is most common in language, and often, abusive, degrading terms are used to make the sub feel their fantasy position. There is also external humiliation where a sub performs a degrading or embarrassing task. NOTE: The sub should desire this and be mentally healthy prior to play.

Butt plugs for potty training

Butt plugs are anal inserts in many sizes that can be installed for total control of biological functions. Often, they are strapped on and locked, and the sub may wear them continuously.

Medical play

Medical scening is done using a room which may appear to be a Doctor's office. Often, horrible devices are laid out within view of the submissive. Piercing may occur, the use of sounds, scalpels, needles, and many other things. Note: HEALTH ISSUES HERE

Floggers

A flogger is generally a whip with many tails. They run into the same category as a cat, depending on the area of the country you live in.

Speed Whip

This whip is wrapped in leather with a double split tail. Used for barrel racing with horses, it is inexpensive, if somewhat crude, and very effective (generally under 10 dollars).

Crops

The crop is also in the family of the quirt. It is generally about 24 inches long with a rigid stem and a leather loop on the end.

Slappers

Also known as leather paddles, these are double leather that make a slapping sound when used.

Paddles

Most often made of wood, these are easy to mishandle and leave deep bruising on the sub. Shapes, sizes, and designs vary widely.

Spankings

Usually done with the open hand, there are many different techniques, including the English style, which is fast and involves glancing blows. BEWARE of the tailbone (do not hit it).

Caning

Most often made of bamboo, this whip is by far one of the most painful for the recipient. Care should be exercised, as the welts rise slowly and blood can be drawn accidentally. Use ONLY on the fleshy part of the ass!

Ticklers

These are 18-inch rods with a tufted tiny 'flogger' on the end. Great for tiny areas with control. Also in this range are those devices which tickle the sub (they hate them), feathers, bolas, etc. Used by the Dominant mitts are gloves with 'stuff' on the outside. Consider this 'stuff' to be like sandpaper, etc.

Nail Extenders

Metal fingernails or cheesegraters are used to scratch the sub with.

Parachutes

A round leather device that fits between the scrotum and the base of the penis with chains for the addition of weights.

Full CBT with weights

This area of play includes bondage, sheaths, rings, separators, weights, etc.

Well, this touches the surface of what is out there. I noticed that I forgot blindfolds, scarves, and hoods in detail. Also, many of the things noted above are dangerous. Educate yourself well before trying them. I did not list the safety issues on everything, so please PLEASE go to a competent techniques and mechanics book for details. One such is The Loving Dominant, and another is SM101.
