Dear Friends ~
This article was written in response to a letter I received earlier this week. It contains some medical information, but not everything that a person participating in these activities should be concerned about. I recommend that anyone wishing to participate in serious GS or BS scening obtain some comprehensive information from a reliable 'medical' source (I am not a medical Doctor) on the risks of contracting or being exposed to other diseases beyond the focus of this article. Hepatitis is perhaps the most common serious infection (disease) that the BDSM community faces today. I have only covered the surface information on this virus in this article.

Golden Showers ~ Brown Showers
Golden Showers are often referred to as GS. Loosely, this practice is to urinate or pee upon another person in a scene. Golden Showers fall into the category of 'Water Sports' and are among the practices that involve serious health risks to those wishing to participate. Urine is a bodily fluid and can contain biological elements that can cause illness and disease in others. For the most part, urine is considered one of the 'safer' bodily fluids as it is regarded as 'more sterile' than other bodily outputs. Showers occurring on the body of a recipient are generally not dangerous. Showers directed toward an open mouth are more risky since the potential of ingestion is strong. If you are interested in practicing or being the recipient of Golden Showers, then it is a good idea to be fully aware of the 'health' of anyone you see in this way. Many diseases have no visible symptoms, and you cannot be sure that a person is 'healthy' by observation. You cannot determine that someone is arbitrarily 'safe'.
Brown Showers are often referred to as BS, raunch, rimming, or scat. Loosely, this practice is to direct feces upon or into another person 'in scene'. Brown Showers also fall into the category of 'Water Sports' and are considered to present grave health risks to those in receipt of such showers. The primary health risk to Brown Showers is exposure to the viruses causing Hepatitis (please note that other viruses and diseases can also be passed in feces).
Hepatitis is a virus that attacks the liver. There are at least 5 different kinds of Hepatitis viruses (A-E). Hepatitis can make you sick for several weeks or months, it can cause severe liver damage, cirrhosis (scarring of the liver), and a significantly increased risk of liver cancer. Hepatitis C can go further and lead to liver failure. Hepatitis C is the leading cause of liver transplants in the United States.
There are currently vaccines for Hepatitis A and B, and if you fall into any of the following categories, you should receive these vaccinations.
- Men who have sex with men
- People who have sex with or even live with someone who has Hepatitis (A-E)
- People who have more than one sexual partner in a year
- People who participate in anal or oral sex (this includes rimming of the anus)
- People who ingest bodily fluids such as ejaculation or pre-cum, or women's vaginal fluids
- People who participate in blood sports such as piercings
- People who frequently get tattoos or body modification piercings
- Anyone under the age of 25
- Anyone with chronic liver disease
Hepatitis A vaccine takes 2 shots (one now, and one 6-12 months later)
Hepatitis B vaccine takes 3 shots ( one now, one 1 month from now, and one 6 months later)
GET ALL THE SHOTS - failure to do so and you will not be fully protected.
Symptoms of Hepatitis include:
- extremely tired, muscles feel weak
- loss or lack of appetite
- nausea or vomiting
- fever
- a bloated or painful stomach
- dark-colored urine
- yellow tint to eyes and skin (jaundice)
Hepatitis A is spread primarily through tiny pieces of feces, so tiny that they can be invisible to the eye. Hepatitis B is spread primarily through blood or bodily fluids such as cum, precum, vaginal fluids, and intravenous drug use with unsterile needles, piercings, and tattoos. Hepatitis C is known to spread through family members, needle stick injuries, IV drug use, transfusions, hemodialysis, orally (even French kissing if blood is present in the mouth), sexually, anal and oral sex, mother to child at birth, and through contaminated needles, such as in scenes during piercing and tattoos.
Scene active people who are not vaccinated should request testing for Hepatitis during their regularly scheduled physicals yearly. Due to the serious nature of this infection and the high risks of other diseases or infections conveyed in human feces, scat, BS, raunch, and rimming are not recommended. If you desire to participate in these activities, then consult your doctor and inquire into your potential further risks before scening. Check the medical histories of those you wish to scene with to determine your level of risk to the best of your ability.

Definitions
Golden Showers
A slang term for a sexual practice where one person urinates on their partner for erotic pleasure or fetishistic arousal.

Roman Showers
A slang term, often derogatory, for a sexual fetish involving one person vomiting on another, often associated with emetophilia. It is considered a rare sexual act and a form of paraphilia, sometimes linked to historical, albeit inaccurate, references to Roman vomitoria.

Synonyms: facial, cum facial.
